I'm extremely disappointed in the conference's poor responsiveness and virtual apathy towards issues surrounding pastoral care and church staff abuse. It is a shameful practice to cover up or ignore abuse of power within a sacred space, and after a lifetime of attendance and adherence to Methodist doctrine, the Holston Conference's practices have dissuaded me from future attendance. Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor has made it clear that she chooses to prioritize pastoral friendships above the desires, needs, and prayers of a church community. I'm optimistic that the conference will eventually hear the needs of a community desperate for change, and actuate change within the chain of command, but until then, I will regard them with the same disappointment that befalls so many institutions of our history that have covered up atrocious behavior with the veil of religious convictions...
