They did not stand by the rental reservation and charged us more than double the price for the upgrade that we were forced to take. The "wildcard" promised a car for 5 passengers and 2 pieces of luggage. This was obviously a scam. After reading other reviews, we were obviously not the only customers they did this to. They wanted to give us a pick-up truck instead. They absolutely didn’t care that luggage and groceries in the bed of the truck were going to get wet. We were told that since they were a franchise they did not have the same policies as Thrifty corporate does. The manager, Valerie will not even call me back to address our concerns. Air conditioner on the "upgrade" they gave us failed shortly after leaving the airport. After 4 weeks of phone calls and correspondence, we still have not been fully refunded for the overcharges. Do not use the Knoxville Thrifty location. The one exception - The gentleman at the rental return garage was very helpful. They should make him the manager instead!
If I could put zero stars I would. I wish I would've read other peoples reviews before booking here. We booked a car for our trip to basically drive to the trail head, and sit there for 4 days while we hiked around the great smoky mountains. The lady at the front asked if we wanted both of us to be listed as drivers, and we said yeah sure, why not. Well the why not is because they charged us an additional $9USD/day for this, but didn't care to disclose this info to us. I called in to speak with someone to rectify the issue, which basically ended in them telling me there was nothing they could do, and that I initialed the box for the additional charge. It was almost midnight when we were picking up the vehicle, and needless to say we were tired and ready to get to a hotel to get rested for the next day. I didn't expect to get mislead, and cheated by my rental company. So beware, as this is apparently their business practice!
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!! There are astronomical hidden fees that they don't tell you about until you get there to pick up your car, and you either have to pay up to 3x more what you were promised or do what I did and say screw it and go somewhere else. Seriously, save yourself a ruined morning and DON'T use these people. Also, ignore the good reviews because they promise a free rental if you leave a 5 star review, so basically they bribe people to say good things about them so they can continue screwing people.
These folks were awesome. Free upgrade to an SUV. Nice as can be. Lost my sunglasses on my trip. Called to see if they were in the rental. Got to phone calls from two different leaders apologizing but they couldn't find my sunglasses (which I found later).
The customer service at this location is AMAZING. It is very crucial to read the Thrifty and Dollar website for their new policies and procedures. Of course, there will be unexpected amounts of money due if you book through other websites like Travelocity, Expedia and Hotwire because they do not disclose certain information for this location. For example, this location DOES have travel rates, a NEW debit card policy and a lot more. As any other rental company you will have to upgrade if you want anything else besides what you reserved and this location is pretty reasonable when it comes to their upgrades. Keep it up guys, you are doing good!!
